At the Water's Edge

A thoughtful cabin renovation designed for comfort, resilience, and life off the grid

Building on a remote island requires more than craftsmanship. It requires careful planning, creative problem solving, and a deep understanding of logistics. This off-grid cabin renovation transformed a beloved family retreat into a comfortable, self-sufficient getaway while preserving the relaxed character that makes island life so special.

The project included a complete rebuild of the waterfront deck in beautiful Western Red Cedar, finished with cable railings and integrated bench seating that creates the perfect place to enjoy long summer evenings overlooking the water. New windows, doors, and trim refreshed the exterior while improving comfort and performance throughout the cabin.

Behind the scenes, we completely modernized the property's infrastructure with new water storage, filtration, heating, and pressurization systems, alongside a robust solar array, lithium battery storage, and a propane backup generator capable of supporting modern conveniences year-round. We also constructed a detached utility building with generous storage and a beach-access powder room. Every material, tool, and system had to be carefully transported and coordinated for delivery to an island without roads, making the successful execution of this project just as impressive as the finished result.
